On Friday June 9th, we had the privilege to enjoy a wonderful recital produced by, and featuring our very own Director, Hedya Cavenor. It was a musical feast, with Hedya performing beautiful, moving piano solos by Chopin, Mendelssohn and Schumann, as well as a very creative, musical telling of the inspiring story of her own family's Aliyah.
Through music, we were able to share the joy of her father, Paul Alexander's escape from Nazi Germany on the Kindertransport. Paul, also an accomplished pianist, joined Hedya on stage to regale us with his ageless talent; father and daughter played a Mendelssohn together, four hands. As a crowning glory, Paul's grandchildren showed us that his is not just a story of survival, but of meaningful success and true triumph. The four Cavenor children played beautifully - Maayan on violin, Avinoam on saxophone, Daniel on clarinet and Yarden on cello, joined by cousin Shir for one song - and they radiated love of family and of music. What an inspiration to us, as Olim, as music lovers, and as friends who dream that all of our children will succeed.
We are privileged to have Hedya share her incredible talent and passion with us. Through her warmth and enthusiasm, she inspires us every week. And with this concert, Hedya has uplifted our spirits and given us even more to dare to dream, from our new life in our beloved Israel.
May we, our children, and our children's children all be blessed with love and music.
